On this episode of The Real Parenting Show with Dr. Pete & Sara… we’ve all done it, more than we think we have, and probably more than we’d like: sat our kids in front of the TV to keep ‘em occupied while we got something important done. The Electronic Babysitter, as it’s sometimes called, is reviled by many experts, so what’s a caring, concerned parent – who also needs a half-hour to cook dinner – to do?

First of all, says Dr. Pete on this week’s show, we can relax! TV isn’t the evil product that so many would have us believe. Being thoughtful, and realistic, about how you use the television to keep your kids occupied is important, and as always he has some great tips for us all.

This week on The Real Parenting Show with Dr. Pete & Sara, we discuss the link between good parenting and an organized house. It may not seem like a big deal, but certified professional organizer, and mom of two, Allison Carter, explains some simple ways that being more organized can help you be a better parent. And it’s all about time…

Allison joins us for a great discussion filled with humor and real-life tips to organize your house, manage your time, and help your day go more smoothly, all of which reduces stress. Dr. Pete weighs in to explain how less stress increases your ability to parent effectively. Both of our experts agree that when you clear the clutter from your life you can focus on what is truly important to you – your family.

But, if you’re one of the disorganized parents out there (Sara’s raising her hand, here!), take heart, because the organizational tips Allison shares are super easy to implement. She basically breaks down a home into zones, and tells you how you can too. Then, you start organizing one zone at a time until finally you have the entire house under control. From kids’ rooms, to the front door area, to the kitchen counters, Allison shares real-life experiences of how to target those problem areas and more and get rid of some of the chaos in the life of a modern family.
