The Real Parenting Show 010: – Instilling Gratitude In Our Children
Welcome to The Real Parenting Show with Dr. Pete & Sara… we tackle a timely issue in this week’s show, how to instill a sense of gratitude in our children.
The holiday season is a time of reflecting on the many blessings in our lives, but it’s also a prime teaching moment. It is a good time to reflect on how we, as parents, are helping our children develop a sense of being grateful for those things they have. There are a number of ways that parents can help a child develop a sense of being thankful:
- Set the Example
- Give Thanks but Don’t Demand Thanks
- Establish Family Traditions
- Offer Service
- Try Going Without
- It’s The Little Things That Count
- Makin’ A List, Checkin’ It Twice!
Dr. Pete Stavinoha, a neuropsychologist, helps parents look at the idea of gratitude from a child’s point of view, and gives us all ideas on how to not only model our behavior, but also directly communicate the values that we want our children to develop. We invite you to take a listen…
